RECOMMENDATION:  Staff recommends extending for an additional year the contract for tutoring services with Communities in Schools in the amount of $55,000.00 using budgeted General Fund dollars.

BACKGROUND:  The Mayor and City Council chose to direct a portion of the funds from the City’s ARPA grant to help address the learning gap experienced by local students due to the pandemic.  Communities in Schools of Georgia in Marietta/Cobb County (CIS) was selected through a competitive process to provide these services.  Based on the positive results of CIS’s work the City has extended the initial one-year contract for two additional years.

Since all funding from the City’s American Rescue Plan Act grant has been expended or is already under contract, funds have been provided in the FY2026 General Fund budget for a one-year extension to this contract.
